There’s a full list of midweek Premier League fixtures this week and InterBet will once again preview all games and offer the latest betting odds and tips. The week will kick off with four games taking place on Tuesday and the outcome of these fixtures could have huge repercussions for the bottom half of the Premier League.
Cardiff City vs Everton
Cardiff City’s two-match winning run came to an emphatic halt at the weekend with the Bluebirds on the wrong end of a 5-1 demolition at the hands of Watford. Next up for Neil Warnock’s side is a home clash with out-of-form Everton.
Marco Silva’s Everton side arrive in South Wales on the back of three successive defeats. It is more than four years since Everton lost four in a row and defeat to Cardiff will crank up the pressure on boss, Silva.
A run of eight losses in eleven league games, including each of the last three, has left Everton languishing in eleventh position. Their ambitious owners have invested heavily in the squad with the hope of breaking into the top six. Although that remains a difficult task, the Toffees hierarchy will be less than pleased to be 17 points adrift of sixth after just 27 games. Such has been their dire run of form, Everton are just one point closer to Wolves in eighth than they are to the bottom three.
Defenders, Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma are set to miss out for Everton but Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka could feature. Cardiff will be without on-loan forward, Oumar Niasse, with the forward ineligible to play against his parent club. With fellow forward, Bobby Reid, also a doubt, Danish international, Kenneth Zohore, could start his first game since September.
Match Odds
Cardiff City – 69/25
Draw – 9/4
Everton – 109/100
Prediction: 2-1 (11/1)
Huddersfield Town vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Huddersfield and Wolves meet at the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday having enjoyed hugely contrasting Premier League campaigns so far. Hosts, Huddersfield, have been cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League and their return to the second tier now seems a formality.
The Terriers have changed managers recently, replacing promotion-winning manager, Dadvid Wagner with Jan Siewert, the former coach of Borussia Dortmund’s ‘B’ team. However, their fortunes have not improved under Siewert. Ahead of the visit of Wolves, Huddersfield have lost all four managers under Siewert. Only Eric Black (Aston Villa) and Mick McCarthy (Sunderland) have lost their first five Premier League games in charge of a club.
In contrast, last season’s Championship winners, Wolves have enjoyed a fine start to life back in the top tier. Wolves have already matched their best ever points tally in a Premier League season (40) and most league wins (11).
Wolves manager, Nuno Espirito Santo has a full squad to choose from with no injury concerns. Huddersfield meanwhile will be without Tommy Smith, Adama Diakhaby, Isaac Mbenza, Danny Williams and Abdelhamid Sabiri.
Match Odds
Huddersfield Town – 77/20
Draw – 23/10
Wolverhampton Wanderers – 21/25
Prediction: 0-2 (31/5)
Leicester City vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Leicester City were on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend to extend their winless run in the league to six matches. That heavy defeat at the King Power Stadium was also their fourth in a row at home, the joint-longest run of defeats they’ve suffered at home in the Premier League.
In the aftermath of that defeat, manager, Claude Puel, became the latest Premier League manager to get the chop. Celtic’ boss, Brendan Rodgers, is set to take the Leicester City hotseat after verbally agreeing to succeed Puel.
Not since 1959 have the Foxes lost five consecutive home league games and the home side will be boosted by the return of England international, Ben Chilwell, for the visit of Brighton.
The Seagulls form is arguably worse than that of Tuesday’s hosts. Chris Hughton’s side are in danger of being sucked into the relegation dog-fight after a run of just one win in eleven league games. Brighton have managed just one point in five games and arrive at the King Power having lost 3-1 to Burnley in their last league game.
Florin Andone (suspension) and Leon Balogun (injury) are both set to miss the trip to Leicester. However, Chris Hughton’s squad could be bolstered by the return to fitness of several key players. Glenn Murray, Solly March, Jurgen Locadia, Lewis Dunk and Jose Izquierdo could all feature.
Match Odds
Leicester City – 21/25
Draw – 241/100
Brighton & Hove Albion – 71/20
Prediction: 3-0 (12/1)
Newcastle United vs Burnley
Newcastle United and Burnley are set to play out a real relegation six-pointer under the St James’ Park floodlights. The pair are separated by just two points with Newcastle four points clear of the bottom three on 28 points and Burnley two points better off on 30.
Both sides have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes recently and are two of the division’s most in-form teams. Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle have earned ten points in their past five games and are aiming for a fourth consecutive home win for the first time this season.
Newcastle could be boosted by the return to fitness of midfielder, Jonjo Shelvey. A recurring thigh injury has kept Shelvey out since early January but Rafa Benitez has confirmed that the 26-year old could feature on Tuesday.
Burnley arrive in the North East in their longest ever unbeaten run in the Premier League. The Clarets have gone eight games without defeat in the league, their longest run in the top flight since going nine unbeaten in 1966.
Burnley could make it five top-flight away games unbeaten for the first time since 1966 but were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle in the reverse fixture back in November. The past two meetings between these sides at St James Park have both finished in a draw.
Match Odds
Newcastle United – 11/10
Draw – 217/100
Burnley – 57/20
Prediction: 3-1 (18/1)
