Premier League 19/20 Preview – Alternative Betting Markets

The new Premier League season is just around the corner and here at InterBet we conclude our season preview by looking at several exciting betting markets available to our customers. Having already covered the Premier League title race and relegation battle, we now move on to the race for the Golden Boot whilst also looking at a couple of intriguing alternative betting markets.

Golden Boot Winner

Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

Last Season – 17 goals

Odds – 4/1

Two-time Golden Boot winner, Harry Kane, will be aiming to join Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry as just the third player to finish three Premier League seasons on top of the goalscoring charts. The rigours of last summer’s FIFA World Cup seemed to take its toll on the competition’s top scorer as Kane missed large chunks of the 2018/19 campaign through injury.

After enjoying a full pre-season this time around Kane is tipped to hit the ground running for Spurs. Retaining the services of the club’s main creative force, Christian Eriksen, will also boost Kane’s chances of a Golden Boot and who knows, perhaps some silverware also!

Mo Salah (Liverpool)

Last Season – 22 goals

Odds – 5/1

Salah didn’t quite hit the lofty heights of his 32-goal 2017/18 campaign but the Egyptian still finished joint-top scorer in the league last season. Liverpool are hoping to go one better than last season’s second-placed finish and Salah will once again be their main threat in front of goal.

Egyptian international, Salah, will return to his club with a point to prove after an underwhelming Africa Cup of Nations. As host nation, Egypt were one of the pre-tournament favourites but slumped to a last-16 defeat to South Africa.

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Last Season – 21 goals

Odds – 11/2

Last season’s champions, Manchester City, are aiming to match Manchester United’s record of three consecutive Premier League titles and their hopes once again rest on the shoulders of all-time top scorer, Sergio Aguero.

Argentine, Aguero, fell just short of the Golden Boot award last season. His return of 21 goals was just one short of the haul achieved by leading trio, Salah, Mane and Aubameyang.

Despite winning just a solitary Golden Boot in 2014/15, Aguero has been a model of consistency in recent years and has bagged at least 20 league goals in five successive seasons. Only injuries will derail Aguero’s charge towards another significant goal return.

The return to fitness of Belgian playmaker, Kevin de Bruyne, further boosts Aguero’s hopes of a second Golden Boot.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

Last Season – 22 goals

Odds – 8/1

Aubameyang has hit the ground running since joining Arsenal from Bundesliga giants, Borussia Dortmund. After sharing the Golden Boot in his first full season in England, Aubameyang will be expected to kick on again during the 2019/20 campaign.

If Nicolas Pepe completes his expected move from Lille, he will further enhance Arsenal’s creativity, boosting Aubameyang’s hopes of another Golden Boot.

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Last Season – 17 goals

Odds – 12/1

Raheem Sterling will consider himself unlucky to miss out on the Player of the Year award last season and the England international will come back refreshed after a full summer off. Whilst Sergio Aguero remains Manchester City’s main threat in front of goal, a return of 17 goals last season makes Sterling a great each-way prospect again this season.

Like Aguero, Sterling will benefit from a fully-fit Kevin de Bruyne pulling the strings from midfield.

Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Last Season – 22 goals

Odds – 12/1

Mane was a surprise winner of the Golden Boot last season but a busy summer at the African Cup of Nations could scupper any chance of a repeat. Mane led Senegal to the final of Africa’s main international tournament and will be given a prolonged break before getting his season up and running.

Mane is unlikely to keep pace with teammate, Salah, again this season but at 12/1 he will prove excellent each-way value.

Pride of London

Two points separated London’s big three teams and here at InterBet we’re expecting a similarly tight affair in the battle for local bragging rights.

Chelsea claimed third spot last season behind Manchester City and Liverpool but their hopes of another top three have been dented by the transfer embargo imposed on them. Talisman, Eden Hazard, has also departed Stamford Bridge after completing a £100m move to Real Madrid. Fortunately for Chelsea they’d agreed a deal for Christian Pulisic prior to their transfer ban. The Blues faithful will hope that the former Borussia Dortmund star can fill the void left by Hazard.

There’s also been a managerial change at Chelsea with club legend, Frank Lampard, taking over from Maurizio Sarri in the Blues hotseat.

Arsenal fans were expecting yet another frustrating summer after the board claimed there would be just £45m to spend on new players. However, with several big-money transfers on the horizon there is cause for optimism at The Emirates. Arsenal fans will be deprived of Champions League football for a second successive season, increasing the pressure on manager, Unai Emery, to deliver a top four finish.

The bookies’ favourites to finish as London’s top club are Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs looked as if they were in a three-horse title race at one stage but eventually slumped to fourth. Hoping to build on a first ever Champions League final, Spurs have shattered their club transfer record to bring midfielder, Tanguy Ndomele, in from Lyon.

Ahead of their first full season at the brand-new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs will also be buoyed by the probability of retaining key players Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen.

Top London Club

Tottenham Hotspur – 5/4

Chelsea – 7/4

Arsenal – 11/4

Top Six Finish

With several of the so-called ‘Big Six’ undergoing times of major change there has never been a better time for the chasing pack to break into that leading group. With a whole host of clubs hoping to breach the top six, there are a trio of sides at the head of the betting market. Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton are all available at a generous price of 7/2 to finish in the top six.
