The Best Football Bets Available This Week

The football season may be drawing to a close but there are still plenty of opportunities to make a tidy profit with the bookies. Here at InterBet we take a look at this week’s action, providing you with team news, betting tips and enhanced match odds.

Monday 6th May

Manchester City vs Leicester City

Premier League

Manchester City can get one hand on the Premier League trophy at the Etihad Stadium but, standing in their way are an in-form Leicester City side managed by former Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers came agonisingly close to guiding Liverpool to a maiden Premier League title five years ago but they were pipped to the post by City. Now, with both clubs under new management, they are relentlessly fighting to be crowned 2018/19 Premier League champions. Three points in the penultimate game of the season will give Manchester City a one-point advantage over Liverpool going into the final day when City are away at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ahead of this crucial fixture there is so much at stake for Manchester City, however a home win is far from a foregone conclusion. In-form Leicester City have won five and lost just once in their past seven games. The Foxes also won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the King Power Stadium whilst it took a penalty shootout to separate the sides in their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie earlier this year.

The last seven meetings between these sides at the Etihad has averaged four goals per game therefore, over 3.5 goals will attract plenty of interest at 10/11.

However, this could be a far cagier affair. As they go in search of back-to-back Premier League titles, Manchester City’s last three league games have finished 1-0, 2-0 and 1-0. InterBet’s recommended bet is Manchester City to win 2-0 at 13/2.

Manchester City’s record goal scorer, Sergio Aguero is still in the hunt for the Premier League’s Golden Boot and has already found the net 15 times at the Etihad this season. Aguero should be considered at 3/1 to open the scoring.

Alternatively, why not try one of our scorecast bets? A £10 bet on Aguero to score first and City to win 2-0 returns a massive £296.

Match Odds

Manchester City – 1/5

Draw – 6/1

Leicester City – 12/1

Tuesday 7th May

Liverpool vs Barcelona

Champions League Semi-Final Second Leg (0-3 aggregate)

In the space of a week, Liverpool’s Champions League dream has turned into a nightmare. A Lionel Messi-inspired Barcelona side romped to a 3-0 first leg victory at the Nou Camp, leaving Liverpool with a mountain to climb. As if overturning a three-goal deficit wasn’t going to be difficult enough, Liverpool must do so without two key players.

Injury will deprive Liverpool of both Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah when Barcelona come to Anfield. Liverpool have a proud history in the Champions League, winning on five occasions however, given the near-impossible task they face, Jurgen Klopp and his players may be forgiven for having one eye on the weekend’s Premier League finale.

Barcelona are full of confidence and are tipped to add the Champions League and Copa Del Rey titles to the La Liga crown they’ve already won this season. Given the injury news that have rocked Liverpool’s hopes of progress, the Spanish giants will provide excellent value to win at Anfield.

As Messi, Suarez and co get set to descend on Merseyside, we are tipping Barcelona to win the second line. As a Liverpool comeback is now looking increasingly unlikely, Barcelona to win and over 2.5 match goals is our selected bet at 13/5.

Match Odds

Liverpool – 7/5

Draw – 5/2

Barcelona – 7/4

Wednesday 8th May

Ajax vs Tottenham Hotspur

Champions League Semi-Final Second Leg (1-0 aggregate)

Like Liverpool, Spurs also face an uphill struggle to progress from their semi-final. The English side were beaten at home by Ajax and arrive in Amsterdam knowing they’ll need to score at least twice if they are to be involved in a first Champions League final.

Ahead of the first leg, Ajax were afforded the luxury of a lengthy break after the Dutch FA arranged the postponement of all Eredivisie games on the weekend leading up to the match. In contrast, Ajax host the second leg just four days since winning the Dutch Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino will be boosted by the return of forward, Son Heung-Min, who missed the first leg through suspension whilst there are also suggestions that top scorer, Harry Kane, will be amongst the substitutes on Wednesday. Son’s pace and cutting edge in front of goal was sorely missed last week as Spurs battled hard to stay in the tie.

With Son back in the team, Spurs should produce a far more fluid attacking performance as they go in search of two away goals. We at InterBet are backing Spurs to get the goals needed to progress, the key question will be whether they can prevent Ajax from scoring at the other end.

There will certainly be goals in this one, therefore, over 2.5 match goals will attract plenty of interest at 5/7. On Spurs’ only previous away game against Ajax, the visitors claimed a 3-1 win. That result will be enough to see Spurs progress to the Champions League final and is available at 21/1.

Match Odds

Ajax – 11/10

Draw – 5/2

Tottenham Hotspur – 9/4

To Progress

Ajax – 3/10

Tottenham Hotspur – 5/2

Thursday 9th May

Chelsea vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Europa League Semi-Final Second Leg (1-1 aggregate)

Chelsea scored an invaluable away goal in Germany last week and are now tipped to reach a second Europa League final in seven years. The future of Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, has been the subject of intense speculation throughout the season however success in this competition would cap a fine first season in England. Chelsea have already reached the Carabao Cup final and secured a place in next season’s Champions League.

Ahead of this crucial Europa League second leg, Eintracht Frankfurt opted to rest several first team players for their weekend trip to Bayer Leverkusen. The result was a miserable 6-1 Bundesliga defeat that has left their participation in next season’s Champions League under real threat.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s team selection on Sunday was a clear indication of where their priorities lay this season; winning the Europa League. Their chances of winning at Stamford Bridge should therefore not be underestimated.

The Germans know that in order to progress they will need to score in West London, however we at InterBet expect Chelsea to be too strong. Our suggested bet is Chelsea to win and both teams to score at 15/8.

Serbian forward, Luka Jovic, has already found the net nine times in the Europa League, including the opener in Germany last week. Get on the Frankfurt forward to score at any time at 9/5.

Match Odds

Chelsea – 4/11

Draw – 4/1

Eintracht Frankfurt – 7/1

Valencia vs Arsenal

Europa League Semi-Final Second Leg (1-3 aggregate)

After their disappointing draw at home to Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend, Arsenal’s hopes of a top four Premier League finish are now over. Winning the Europa League is therefore the Gunners’ only hope of playing in next season’s Champions League.

The Premier League side claimed a solid 3-1 win in the first leg at the Emirates but, will Valencia’s away goal prove vital? Like Arsenal, Valencia may have to reply on Europa League glory to qualify for the 2019/20 Champions League. The Spaniards currently sit fifth in La Liga, three points behind Getafe in fourth with just two games to play.

Valencia have won all three previous home games against Arsenal. However, with a two-goal deficit to make up they will still start as underdogs.

Nine goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (5) and Alexandre Lacazette (4) have helped guide Arsenal to the last four and the front two could again be instrumental in helping Arsenal progress. With the potent duo both set to start at Valencia, Arsenal will be confident of claiming an away goal of their own. Back both teams to score at 8/15.

Match Odds

Valencia – 10/11

Draw – 14/5

Arsenal – 14/5
